"Service to Man Is Service to God” ………….. Swami Vivekananda
Ramkrishna Vedanta Ashram, founded on 12th of January, 1965, on the auspicious annual birthday of Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), is an integral part of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, the worldwide non-sectarian spiritual organizations, who have been serving mankind in various forms of humanitarian and social activities for over a century incessantly.
Apart from leading a life of renunciation and to the realization of Eternal Truth, the objective of Ramkrishna Vedanta Ashram, is, for the practical implementation of this profound ideal of Swami Vivekananda, who was a
spiritual genius with commanding intellect and power. Inspired by this ideal of service to mankind the monks and devotees of Ramkrishna Vedanta Ashram have been relentlessly serving thousands of men, women and children irrespective of caste, creed and religion because they see the living God in them.
The Ramkrishna Vedanta Ashram places utmost importance on personal spiritual development and selfless service. The driving force behind all our activities has been, humbly following the sacred footsteps of Swami Vivekananda, who lived his entire life in establishing Universalism and Harmony and for the realization of Eternal Truth, which has been the essence of India’s ancient spiritual philosophy known as Vedanta. In his words, “The essence of Vedanta is that there is but one Being and that every soul is that Being in full, not a part of that Being”. Vedanta does not stand for one comprehensive or unifying doctrine, rather it is an umbrella term for many sub-traditions. Vedanta remained as the dominant philosophy of India’s religious legacy from ancient Vedic period to the present age. The thoughts and teachings of Vedanta in modern era has been consolidated, vitalized and made lucid by Sri Ramakrishna, the spiritual master of Swami Vivekananda, and was expounded in modern idiom by Swami Vivekananda and made available to all humans without any discrimination of cast creed or race.
The ashram is more than a foster father and mother for those ‘fallen’ children. Its ultimate motto is to give those children a positive hope for living a normal life. Apart from these things the ashram is also involved in various socio economic activities for the benefit of the sociallydistressed people.
The motto of the organization is ATMANO MOKSHARTHAM JAGAD HITAYA CHA, “For one’s own salvation and for the welfare of the world” which was originated by Swami Vivekananda.
Work as worship, potential divinity of the soul and harmony of religions are three of the ideals on which this organization functions. The impact of this noble ideal of Service to Man as Service to God has resulted to establishment of a Co-educational High School for the underserved, organizes vocational training and workshops to generate financial stability among the under privileged, serves mobile medical units to the disabled, arranges relief during natural calamity and many other philanthropic activities for social prosperity.
